Our Story
Preserving our German Heritage
Founded in 1971, the German Canadian Club of Aylmer - Saxonia Hall has grown to over 200 members and has become a significant part of our regional heritage community in its over 50-year history. It has hosted many events, and has opened its doors to the public for weddings, conferences, business meetings, community group activities, and family gatherings. The Saxonia Hall is known in the community for its welcoming atmosphere, longstanding hospitality, authentic cuisine, cultural programs and heritage events.
The membership of the German Canadian Club of Aylmer is made up of many different German ancestral groups, including Siebenbürger Saxons and Schwabens, among others. It provides a place for its members to meet and share in their heritage, to gather with their friends, remember their homeland, speak a common language, learn about their roots and celebrate their lives in Canada.
The Saxonia Hall houses three primary collections: a selection of German and Transylvanian Saxon folk costumes for use by its cultural groups; a cultural exhibit of pottery, embroidered textiles and wooden handcrafted artwork; and a library of German books, photos, and audio material. You need only to visit our club to experience the pride the members take in their heritage.
